CELEBRATE BEING AN INDEPENDENT DIETER!

PRINTER FREINDLY VERSION |

With July 4th just hours away, you and your family and friends are probably planning how you’ll celebrate America’s independence. But if you’re watching how you eat and need to cater to your healthy lifestyle, you may feel like there’s not much to celebrate about being an independent dieter.

Learn how to celebrate with the crowd this July 4th without ruining your diet.

1) BYOHF. If you’re not the one throwing the party this year, you may have seen BYOB on your invitation. But your hosts would certainly appreciate a little help with the food situation, so take this opportunity to Bring Your Own Healthy Food - a healthy entrée or side dish option. Brush up on some delicious and healthy recipes in Diet.com’s Recipes section. Our Herbed Potato Salad puts a spin on an old classic, and our BBQ Chicken Salad will make you the life of the party!

2) Make their mouths water. Be the sweetest person at the party by bringing some delicious and non-diet-devastating desserts. There are tons of ways to end your meal on a sweet note without leaving a sour taste in your dieting mouth. Bring along a couple boxes of Firecracker Popsicles for an old-fashioned cold treat

(Tip continues below)

3) Be a team player. Tempting though it may be to sit back and relax alllll daaay long at your get together of choice this year, don’t forget about fitting in some activity! Lots of picnics and parties offer a fun alternative to sitting out. Get up and participate in a game of volleyball, or challenge a loved one to a badminton battle. Chasing around nieces or nephews is also a fun way to be active while you bond with your family!

4) Walk it out. Wherever you’ll be going to a picnic or to see the fireworks, consider using your feet as a mode of transportation. With the excitement of the holiday, there is a chance you may neglect your recommended 10,000 steps a day. If the weather is nice, take your family for a walk to the party spot this year. A leisurely evening stroll to the local fireworks will also bring a little spark to the day!

Our nation is independent, but you don’t have to be this Fourth of July. Join the rest of the parade and celebrate your freedom to make healthy choices while you party till the bombs stop bursting in air! Happy Independence Day from your friends at Diet.com!
